IDEAS FOR A
SUSTAINABLE WEDDING

So you and your fiance are getting married this summer, and you are thinking about ways to keep your wedding down to earth.

You know you want a wedding that’s sustainable but what can you do that makes a positive impact on the earth and you guests? Here are some ideas to get your mind humming in the right direction.

Let’s break up our wedding ideas by category: Cuisine, Decorations, Invitations and Favors.

Local Cuisine

When you attend a wedding as a guest you know you will be fed well. That is because the bride and groom have put a lot of thought into the food.

First and foremost you want food that is grown as locally as possible. Farm-to-table operations work with wedding planners to accommodate this type of cuisine. If you have the option, choose a caterer

This is your chance to find a caterer that serves local food. If you live in the desert you can at least try to get food that is certified organic.

Natural Decorations

Wedding settings can affect the atmosphere of the ceremony and reception. If you can manage an outdoor location you will have the luxury of natural surroundings. If your wedding is indoors you can bring outdoor natural elements to you and the guests.

Flowers are everyone’s first thought, but what are other ways align your wedding with nature? A willow branch arch can be used over the podium. Centerpieces can incorporate anything from flowers to pine cones to grasses and more.

Plantable Invitations and Favors

You can use seed paper for your wedding invitations and party favors. They can be planted instead of thrown out. Seed paper can be used for everything from matchbooks, coasters, to heart shaped confetti.

What is nice here is that whatever you plant will grow into wildflowers. A wildflower blossom is the perfect symbol of happy newlyweds.
