BUYING AN ELECTROMAGNETIC
FIELD DETECTOR

Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) which are generated by electrical currents and constantly present in the environment by way of power lines, computer monitors, home appliances, poor home wiring, etc. should be addressed by everybody at some point. These fields can only be detected by the use of a gauss meter. These devices are simple and relatively inexpensive, and with their use, you can easily detect fields in your environment and make for allowances to avoid them. This is easily done primarily due to the fact that the fields drop very fast with distance.

Once you detect high fields in an environment, you can either shield the environment if necessary with the use of special materials and other techniques, but most of the times remedy can be limited to repositioning furniture or defining areas in your home, office, or other place that you need to avoid.

The constant exposure to EMF fields exceeding 2 milligauss has been associated with adverse medical effects that range from fatigue and headaches all the way to cancer. Although the amount of exposure necessary to cause harm has not been determined, the Office of Technological Assessment of the United States Congress has taken the position that prudent avoidance is the best policy when it comes to these fields.

The use of a gauss meter, is simple, quick, and an interesting investigative task. Once you own a gauss meter, you will be able to measure your environment throughout the year as fields vary with weather conditions and electrical loads in the distribution grids. Situations that are common which will be easily identifiable by the use of such a device have to do with improper grounding of electrical wiring in homes especially in older areas and the presence of electrical panels or switching boxes that are hidden away and to which you can be exposed on a constant basis.
