REVOLUTIONARY NEW WASHER
DEMONSTRATES EFFECTIVENESS
In an unprecedented study to test theeffectiveness of high-efficiency washer technology, the United StatesDepartment of Energy and the City of Bern, Kan. (population: 204), put one ofthe leading water- and energy-saving washers to test. As part of the EnergyStar-sponsored Bern Washer Study, Maytag replaced nearly half of themidwestern town's washing machine supply with this Neptune -- itsrevolutionary new high-efficiency washer. After a six-week Phase I testperiod, the Department computed 38 percent savings in overall water usage,which translates into 640,000 gallons of drinking water over one year's time.In addition, energy savings were measured at 56 percent."Department of Energy labs are working to make many types of everydayappliances more efficient -- to help Americans save on bills and save ourresources. These energy-efficient washing machines are a shining example,"said Secretary of Energy Federico Pena. "The benefits of this study are two-fold. We're getting real-life results on exactly how much water and energyare being saved, and we made an immediate positive impact on Bern, wherewater is a precious commodity."
