How many cars does it take to change the world? Just one. Perhaps. Introducing the all-new Honda Insight. It's America's first gasoline-electric hybrid automobile.
Nothing short of an engineering breakthrough, the Insight achieves a terrific 68 miles per gallon on the highway, 61 miles per gallon in the city, and an astounding 700-mile range on one tank of fuel. How? By combining an efficient three-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor powered by nickel-metal hydride batteries that never need to be plugged in. Then add a world-class aerodynamic design, and an extremely lightweight body, and you have the ultra-low-emission Insight.
It's the culmination of years of research and development into lighter, cleaner, more efficient automobiles. In other words, technology with a conscience.
The 2001 Insight is a 2-door, 2-passenger hatchback available in two trims, Hatchback with AC.
Upon introduction, both trims are equipped with both a standard 1.0-liter, I3, VTEC-E gas engine and a compact permanent-magnet electric motor. Honda's innovative Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system juggles the requirements of the engine, electric motor, charging system and nickel-metal hydride batteries to achieve 61-mpg in the city and 68-mpg on the highway. The hydride batteries are charged through regular operation of the vehicle; therefore, the Insight does not need to be "plugged in." A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard, while a continuously variable automatic transmission will be optional in the early part of 2001.
All Honda Insight cars have air conditioning. Gas/electric hybrid with nickel-metal hydride battery pack. Requires NO outside power source! Recharges during deceleration. Comes with full power package plus AM/FM/cassette and keyless entry. Transportation available (if needed).
