"GREEN" HOTELS SAVE MONEY
WHILE THEY HELP SAVE THE PLANET
What are "green" hotels? "Green" are lodging accommodations - a hotel, motel, resort, B&B or inn - whose management is eager to institute programs that save water and energy and reduce solid waste. They are eager to help SAVE OUR PLANET through their property!
What can you do to encourage "green" hoteliers? Whenever you stay at a hotel, feel free to speak directly to the general manager or sales manager or write them a note. Your compliments or comments will let them know that you want them to "green" up, and that you want to participate. Let them know that you are willing to participate in a towel and sheet program. Let them know that you want them to recycle.
What should a "green" hotel offer guests? Low-flow showerheads. Aerators on sink faucets. Recycling containers in guestrooms or hallways. Cream from a pitcher. Sugar from a pourer. Condiments such as mustard and ketchup from reusable containers. A towel and sheet program. Soap and shampoo dispensers in guestrooms. Meals served on one large plate rather than several plates. Meals served buffet-style reduces waste because each person chooses what they want to eat. Soft drinks served from a dispenser rather than in individual cans.
"Green" is committed to encouraging, promoting and supporting ecological consciousness in the hospitality industry. The association's purpose is to bring together hoteliers interested in environmental issues. GHA encourages every change from adding "drinking water served on request only" to the menu to installing new HVAC systems, and every measure in between.
