GREEN PRODUCTS
CAN REPEL MOSQUITOES

It’s not difficult for those pesky and troublesome little mosquitoes to ruin your peaceful summer cookout or tranquil evenings. A night of summer relaxation can quickly turn into an incredibly irksome affair as hundreds, if not thousands, of those blood thirsty pests infest your yard.

Since over one million people die from mosquito-borne diseases every year, it is especially important that we protect ourselves and our families from these irritating insects. So, in an environmentally and health conscious society, how do we safely control the abominable mosquito from ruining our daily routines?

Being aware of mosquitoes might just save your life in this age of the West Nile virus, and the lack of an adequate mosquito repellant can be costly, even deadly. However, even if you're worried about the negative health effects and consequences of applying chemical bug sprays to your skin, then the use of green and natural repellants might sound appealing.

There are a number of green and natural products that will effectively repel mosquitoes. Mosquito prevention methods include oils such as castor oil, rosemary oil, lemongrass oil, cedar oil, peppermint oil, clove oil, geranium oil, and cedar oil.

A widely used in natural mosquito repellant is citronella, which include catnip plants and castor bean plants. Many people use a candle to burn citronella, while some others safely apply citronella to the skin as a topical oil.

According to a new study published by the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, one of the world’s largest scientific societies and a leader in scientific research, cinnamon oil is a great-smelling, environmentally friendly and green pesticide. This green repellant also has the ability to kill mosquito larvae.

Whether you suffer mosquito bites can even depend on the way that we dress. Since mosquitoes have been proven to be attracted to dark-colored clothing, it may be a good idea to wear clothes that are light-colored. This can certainly be a simple way to help fight off those blood-suckers.

Sometimes you just have to attack the problem at the source, and the source of mosquitoes is the larvae that breed in standing water. If you want to hit the mosquitoes where it really hurts, you should eliminate these sources of standing water that surround your home. You can also use Bt bacteria, also known as Bacillus thuringiensis. Bt bacteria attacks mosquito larvae but pose no threat or harm to other forms of life.

There’s even a high tech answer for natural mosquito control that avoids applying any chemicals to your skin. The Mosquito Magnet is a device that gives off a gas that simulates natural human breath, which lures mosquitoes into its death chamber, trapping them in a net and eliminating the mosquitoes from your yard. Although using a high-tech machine to eradicate mosquitoes might not be entirely “natural,” is certainly avoids the use of chemical bug sprays.

Why worry about mosquitoes, your health, and the environment all together? The use of green products to repel those nuisances known as mosquitoes will certainly make the Earth a little greener, and the use of the high-tech Mosquito Magnets will avoid applying chemical bug sprays to your skin.
