ADVANTAGES OF
HORIZONTAL-AXIS
WASHING MACHINES
There's a revolution going on. Horizontal-axis Washing Machines (HWMs) are taking over with a revolutionary new way to do your laundry. HWMs are also called front loaders because they usually have their door on the front instead of the top. In Europe, HWMs have already captured over 90 percent of the washing machine market. They can change the way you look at laundry. So, join the wash revolution and start saving.
Save Money
With a new HWM you save money (see savings table for details). Based on the typical cost of doing laundry, an average home can save $60 to $70 a year or more. That's enough to pay for the added cost of a HWM in as few as four years. Some homes have less wash; some models cost more. But, whatever the case, you'll save money every time you wash.
Want to save more? You can with a high-speed spin option available on many HWMs. This saves even more energy by extracting more water from your clothes before you put them in the dryer. A high-speed spin saves time too. Your clothes will take less time to dry. And that saves energy, too.
Save even more with an instant, in-store rebate of $130 under the WashWise Program.
Save Water
Water is a key part of washing. The HWM design--with tumble action washing instead of a vertical tub--cleans with less water. HWMs are used in large commercial and industrial laundries. Laundry "pros" use them because they want the best cleaning action at the lowest cost. Now you can too.
Save Detergent and Bleach
Because HWMs are more efficient and use less water, you need less detergent in each load. Less bleach, too. With a HWM you can cut your detergent and bleach use in half. That cuts your laundry supply costs and sends less detergent down the sewer for treatment. Best of all, your clothes will be just as clean. Or cleaner!
Save Clothes
The tumble action cleaning used by HWMs not only saves natural resources, tests show it saves your clothes, too. Clothes wear out faster in machines that use agitators for cleaning. The rinse/spin cycles on most HWMs also mean less residual detergent is left in your clothes.
Save Space
Is there a lack of space in your laundry room? HWMs help with that too. Because most HWMs have doors on the front, instead of the top, washers and dryers can be stacked. That gives you both machines in the floor space of one! The front loading feature also means you can use the top of your HWM as a table or for storage.
Save the Environment
All the other reasons to use a HWM--saving money, space, and more--may not be as important in the long run as the benefit to our environment. HWMs make fewer demands on our natural resources. They save energy, water, and detergent. So, less of those items need to be produced, with less resulting air and water pollution. And less carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. That means less global warming.
Save on the Purchase Price
Check with your utility company to see if they give rebates for HWM purchases. Some now offer rebates that can reduce your HWM cost.
